R&D and Technology

Norfolk Organics together with Nightingale Farms is a leader in the Ontario vegetable farming industry crop research; developing high technology methods of farming to improve product quality and to extend the local growing season.

  • Plastic mulches to keep the produce cleaner and prevent moisture loss.
  • Our early adoption of drip irrigation means we water the roots, not the leaves thus reducing our water usage while simultaneously producing higher quality produce.
  • Low tunnels, crop covers, crop monitoring systems, and most recently the use of high tunnel structures allow us to better control moisture loss and lengthen the growing season.

Each of these new methods of farming enable the farmer to control moisture loss and provide the opportunity to capitalize on the superior drainage and higher soil temperatures of Norfolk area sandy soils. This in turn allows for the production of earlier crops with better disease control and increased yields making this area one of the most productive areas for agriculture.
